I read the post that the Turf team will be more restrictive on adding new zones. As an alternative, couldn't one have a system with a database of many zones, but not all of them active all the time? E.g. one could have a set of zones active for taking and then at regular intervals (when a new round starts e.g., or at other intervals) remove some zones and add new zones. It would still mean that the number of zones for players to take is not inflating, but it would also make the game play more fun as there would be new zones to take more frequently.

It has been discussed before and is not an entirely bad idea, there's pros and cons. The main con is that the developers would have to make a system to do it automatically, and a randomized technical solution would probably result in a playing field that is not as good as the current manual one. And to manually do this work is way to time consuming.

Ah, the old argument manual is always better than automatic. Keep in mind that most of the gameplay in turf comes out of player behaviours. An automatic distribution of the zone could change up the playing field, which also means that player behaviours would change. There are plenty of great games that are built on automatically generated playing fields, Civilization being the outstanding example. If the game field similar between rounds in Civ it would be a lot less interesting as a game.

It would kill off one of the most important things in the game, the hunt for unique zones becomes meaningless when to rely on luck to the right zones arrive.

this sounds like fun i think this game needs something new and interesting ideas, the hunt for next rank is very boring once 50+ same with unique zones, and new medals are coming not very often so people might lose interest if no new features will come..
