A south London miscellany of zone proposals

Post by Northstar »

The brilliant bit about turfing is finding new discoveries. While turfing in South London recently (using both existing and newer zones) I've found a
whole lot more places which are interesting/unique, but too easy to miss even if moving from zone to zone (I'd turfed a route 4 times for one of
these without having known about it, let alone having lived nearby for years), Yes, there are a lot for Dulwich, but it's a very different place, not
Londony at all. These are all in areas where there are active turfers, and I really want people to be encouraged (by new zones) to branch out a bit.

Lordship Lane (as an important ancient road, and full of buzz today)
-East Dulwich Picture House (zone on forecourt/pavement) google coordinates https://goo.gl/maps/UnJkPN8DyD9tuUFP8
-Monkey Puzzle (named for the tree outside Dulwich Library if a zone is possible out the front, though there may be more space to the rear)
google coordinates: https://goo.gl/maps/s4N52Sdc6GzPrjnC7
-Fireman's Alley google coordinates https://goo.gl/maps/vp57rjVykQanhVMYA

Other notable streets (either pedestrianised or with garden sections to locate zones)
-Melbourne Grove (or CherryBlossom as it's beautiful in Spring) google coordinates https://goo.gl/maps/uY5FkeggdfKxbm977
-The Grove https://goo.gl/maps/SDs9Q1FJ5D1fNfGA6
-Leake Street (a legal street art zone with a long history under Waterloo station-nb it's quite close to zones WaterlooGreen and
JubileeZone- the better approach would be from the south but that might be considered too easy?) approx google coordinates are https://goo.gl/maps/pt7kuL2DE3UXjMZ49 but google isn't letting me get exact coordinates which should be in Leake Street itself, off Lower Marsh, either just near the signpost or in the part in the middle where the footpath to the tunnel starts dropping 51.5005461,-0.1133645

Parks
-Loughborough Park https://goo.gl/maps/mnYurKSL6mNM8P9y5
-Oval Quarter Totem Pole (commemorates the local history in photograph ceramic mosaic) https://goo.gl/maps/6zpuPNQqtcT5AG4t5
-Belair Park https://goo.gl/maps/ToR4Nji52pqioPzc7 (nice park, gorgeous georgian building) https://goo.gl/maps/ToR4Nji52pqioPzc7

Gardens
-Lettsom Gardens (approx coordinates https://goo.gl/maps/Mg1R1Wm6Vi4kwYQC6)
-Benhill Road Nature Garden https://goo.gl/maps/MVP8crKbCjAB6Bze7
-Crofton Park Railway Garden https://goo.gl/maps/vMRCD85zppX8XaKf9

Significant Buildings:
-Weston Education Centre/Maurice Wahl (part of Kings College) https://goo.gl/maps/gQmymdWDjhAaUbxLA
-Maudsley Hospital https://goo.gl/maps/Hbb5rpzU5vvg6umU7
-Dulwich College (this zone location affords a beautiful view of the 'new' college from a publicly accessible path/square) https://goo.gl/maps/os5NwvAdZaeJo3h99
-Old Dulwich College (I'd asked for a zone for Dulwich Picture Gallery and it's proved popular, but is vulnerable to closures with lockdown as the gallery is closed
the new proposed zone is super close, in fact the other side of the building, but involves going around and into a quad. but boy, is it worth it- it's the old college
and almshouses with a clocktower and so contrasts completely with the entrance to the picture gallery, and so makes a really interesting twin https://goo.gl/maps/ToR4Nji52pqioPzc7
-Bell House (alternative and community education centre) https://goo.gl/maps/kFFmQG1W2EQxm1ZP8
-TheCrown / Dulwich Village because Dulwich really is quite different to other parts of London! https://goo.gl/maps/DzZv3hRktc8MaaCfA
and a Station
-Queens Road Peckham https://goo.gl/maps/dw6Ns4xyHycxswx5A
