placing more zones in Rugby

Post by liamb »

Just wondering if it is possible to get more zones in and around the rugby area. There is a few of us now in rugby playing turf and even though there is a fair few zones. More zones in and around rugby would really make the game more fun and more of a challenge.
I have a few zones suggestions that I will post below. So far I am really enjoying the game and would love to get some more players to create more of a competitive feeling in rugby. The old railway line to Leamington would be perfect example of a good turf day out. Hope these zones get implemented. thanks TurfedOut

Hi liamb,

I was just wondering what your Turf ID was - I don't see a turfer called liamb?

I notice that some of your suggestions are along the canal linking Coventry to Rugby. You'll be pleased to know that I'm already looking at adding a number of zones to that route since the new year and there will be a few more added in the weeks ahead.

I've already added a few new zones to the area - as activity increases - so will the zone count.

Thank you for your suggestions,

Cheers,
Fozzie

P.S. This request should ideally be in the UK specific forum, under the West Midlands section.

OK - let me rephrase - I was just wondering what your Turf ID was - I don't see a turfer called liamb in the Rugby area? Are you the same LiamB who took 6 Stockholm zones in August?

No haha. My turf ID is TurfedOut. I should of made it more clear. I put it at the bottom of my request but never specified what it was for. That's my bad. And yea I see a few zones linking Coventry to rugby. Will definitely be making the yellow zones green in the upcoming weeks

No. We are not related. Just a follow friend who got me into the game. Wanted my name to be related to the game.

Hi liamb,

I hope you don't mind if I give you a little insight into zone making.

Typically, when placing a zone, we will try to avoid making it so that it overlaps with the road or an obviously car accessible area. This is, for safety, to avoid having turfers hanging about in positions that cars might want to be and also avoid encouraging car turfing (which is not against the rules - but is not good for your health or the environment, and viewed by some as not in the spirit of turfing). There may be occasional exceptions, if a location is considered to be of such value that the fact it can be "car turfed" maybe overlooked, but this is a zone maker judgement call and the rule of thumb is avoid zones overlapping roads/carparks etc. Often turfers put suggestions in the App or make suggestions, where the zone is over a road. If the location makes sense, then the zonemaker may look and see if there's a suitable nearby location for a zone - but typically the suggestion will go no further.

In light of the above paragraph, a few comments on your suggestions:

On a road. Using google streetview, no inspiring or obvious nearby place for zone. Nothing stands out as noteworthy for this location.
On a road. Using google streetview, no inspiring or obvious nearby place for zone. Nothing stands out as noteworthy for this location.
On a road. I like the general location, relative to other zones in the area and there is a footpath through the field next to your suggestion that would suit a zone. I decide to place a new zone with your suggested name over the foot path.
Odd - Satellite view looks like over a road (Not Trust Close) but openmaps has different street layout from satellite view. Also estate too new for Google Streetview to give me any insight. I'm not particularly inspired by the location - I have limited zones to allocate - so I move on to next suggestion.
Good suggestion. Canal towpath - always a good options for zones. It just so happens that I'm working through a mini-project to zone the towpath between Rugby and Coventry, so although this specific zone suggestion may or may not be made, the gist of the suggestion is taken and there will be a zone at some point near by.
Nice - another Canal towpath suggestion (see previous comment)
Nice - another Canal towpath suggestion (see previous comment)
Car turfable. Location unnoteworthy. When I have a finite number of zones to allocate in a region, this isn't going to make the cut. A better location nearby would be the graveyard to the south, for a Holy zone, but I'm not feeling the vibes.

More general feedback: suggestions on footpaths, cycle paths, pedestrian only areas (plazas, squares, parks, etc), alleys or cut throughs and footbridges are always likely to preferred to other options. Also a quick comment as to why you think a specific location would make a good zone is helpful, rather than simply a Name and google map link (although google map links are really appreciated too!) Something like:
TomBottomsly - Tom Bottomsly was a local hero who rescued 69 pigs from a barn fire in 1824 and this zone is on the green, in front of the plaque that celebrates Tom's achievement.

or
OldPigSty - This is the site of the oldest pig sty still in use, in Rugby.
https://goo.gl/maps/SoWa5Th15Too
or even
YetAnotherRoad - a good zone location for a route to link the zones in Somewhere Else to Some Other Place.

I hope find you the above feedback helpful and you enjoy the new zones on the canal towpath. Thanks again for your suggestions.
Cheers,
Fozzie

Thanks for the input. I am new to the game (1 month in) and was not aware of CarTurfing so I now know for future on where to and not to place zones. Difficult when you live in such a small area. There is a cycle route from rugby to Leamington I have gone along so I will look into getting zone suggestions placed with a description to try allow for expansion of the small area of rugby. Thanks for the input. Will be going for the canal tow zones soon.
