https://turf.urbangeeks.org/ import issue

Post by ElsieSpanner »

I've been unable to import gpx files that were created on https://turf.urbangeeks.org/ into Garmin Connect lately; error message says "something is wrong with the file" - are the developers or owners of https://turf.urbangeeks.org/ able to check?

Could you try reloading https://turf.urbangeeks.org/, select a few zones, export to a gpx-file from Turf Map Tool and try to import it again into your Garmin application?

Or you could actually reload https://turf.urbangeeks.org/, import a previously exported gpx file that Garmin could not handle, into Turf Map Tool and then export it again without making any changes. Then try to import the new file into your Garmin application.

Hello , i tried aswell with 1 zone and failed, but the info says time is required:
NOTE: Garmin Connect supports the files .FIT, .GPX too .TCX for a GPX file to successfully upload to Garmin Connect, the file must contain time information.

However i use Basecamp for this and then send zones to my garmin , fenix 5x , edge 1030+
There is a few tools to use like this to load many many zones to my Fenix 5x, atm i have 6000 zones in it.
https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=l ... 3eaO9vHYp6

Then again for my edge i use this tool : https://www.javawa.nl/rtwtool_en.html
Make a gpx file with the turf map tool , then open it in javawa convert it to a garmin gpi file, you can change icons aswell with that tool.
connect edge 1030 to pc go browse to edge 1030 /garmin , make a new folder POI , copy the gpi file to that /garmin/POI folder.
i use a red man as icon and i see all zones i have added on the map of my edge , and can plan routes to them. now roughly 6500 zones in my Edge as POI.

with basecamp just import the GPX file to basecamp , those zones can be sent to edge or fenix aswell but is not handled the same as POI

Last for my Fenix 5x i had to do soem extra work to see the zones on fenix 5x map, i made my own icons .
Garmin have information somewhere how they should be in size and colors, couldnt find it now sadly,
Then i did: https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=g ... LNr3BP8m36

I am not sure about your exact usecase here but I created a Gramin Connect account and tried to import the file as a Course.

It is working after the adjustment I made yesterday. (I reverted to using http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/1 as the namespace URL instead of https://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/1 in the gpx file)

Thank you for your responses deppen and UrbanGeeks.

I had no luck with your suggestions (not being especially technically articulate), but have found another workaround, to
a) download my GPX file from UrbanGeeks site on PC into Komoot
b) download from Komoot app into Garmin Connect on my phone
c) It then auto transfers to my Garmin Edge via Bluetooth

Not the most elegant of solutions, but it works for me and I'm happy to plot my next ambush of uniques :-)

Don't know if Naviki works for you but it has Turf zones built in and can do routing. I mostly use it just as a recorder and map viewer when in unknown areas, exploring.

Yes its wonderful, i have to brag its on my initiative they added turf zones some years ago.
However when new zones is added its some delay before they are shown sadly.
Also Naviki makes it easier see the zones in daylight as the map is on white back ground and zones blackish , also in night mode they glow :)

I think you can have up to 20 zones in a route , and you always see the zones where they are in route mode as the map turns in your direction.

Only problem I have with Naviki is the hiding of zones when they get closer together, you have to zoom in pretty much to be able to see all zones. Would be nice if it didn't hide POI's like that.

The new Zone Fasankröken in Stockholm doesnt show on the map .

Likely because it was created as Stigbygeln in a area not allowed to enter , therefore renamed to Fasankröken and moved out of that area.

Thank you for bringing this issue to my attention. It has now been resolved.

I’ve also refactored the code that handles API problems related to moved zones. Going forward, it should seamlessly detect zones that have been relocated within a reasonable distance.
